E-Scooters & Bus Éireann services

Bus Éireann wishes to announce that from 7 October e-scooters will not be permitted for carriage on any of our services. This applies to all Bus Éireann operated services including Expressway services.

The decision has been made after an advisory circular from the National Transport Authority (NTA) to all public transport operators instructing the prohibition of e-scooter carriage on board. This is owing to the growing body of evidence of the fire/explosion risk associated with lithium-ion batteries on the scooters.

Electric bicycles and disability mobility scooters (within permitted sizes) are not affected by this prohibition and may still be carried under the terms of our conditions of carriage.

The safety of our passengers, staff and the public is of paramount importance to Bus Éireann and remains foremost in the delivery of our services.

As per the NTA guidance, this policy will be kept under review by Bus Éireann, the Authority and other transport operators.
