School Transport Update – Friday 3rd January 2025

Travel advisory for School Transport Scheme

Bus Éireann would like to advise our customers who use the School Transport System that there are Orange Weather Warnings in place for the weekend and that you should be aware that there is potential for disruption to your service due to the adverse weather conditions.

In relation to orange/yellow weather warnings, Bus Éireann operate the service where it is safe to do so, based on the prevailing local conditions.  Bus Éireann stand down school transport services in red weather affected areas or where a school is closed due to Departmental decision

Such decisions on school closures and on cancellation of school transport services, by their nature, often need to be taken and communicated under severe time and information constraints. The same applies to decisions on reopening schools and resuming transport services. As school transport services may operate on rural, secondary roads, which may be untreated, this could result in disruption during a spell of adverse weather.

Safety remains the foremost priority.  In areas where transport is affected, communications of all such decisions will issue locally between Bus Éireann/Private Operators and school principals/parents, as soon as information is available, on services affected.   Parents are advised to ensure they monitor regular updates on changing weather conditions, provided by Met Éireann.
