Bus Éireann’s talented Limerick apprentice wins Ireland Skills 2019 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance competition

Bus Éireann is delighted to announce that Limerick apprentice Daniel Curtin based in the Limerick Garage won the recent Ireland Skills 2019 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Competition in the RDS. Daniel Curtin will now be in with a chance to represent Ireland at the World Skills competition in Russia this coming August.
The event, which was held over three days saw Ireland Skills showcase talents in 25 different categories including beauty therapy, construction, cookery, visual merchandising, vehicle and aircraft maintenance, cloud computing etc.
Over 120 competitors were given their tasks and had to undergo an 18 hour skills test as part of the competition, which was examined by judges and examiners from educational institutions and industries.
The aim of the event is to help address the serious skills shortage identified in Ireland and to promote college courses, apprenticeships and traineeships that offer skills and on-the-job learning.
Daniel Curtin, Bus Éireann apprentice from Booladuff, Inagh, Co. Clare said:” I am very proud to have won this award as the competition was extremely tough and challenging over the three days. I would like to thank Bus Éireann for this wonderful opportunuty and I am extremely happy to be now in with a chance to represent Ireland in the World Skills Event in Russia this August.
David Poynton, Apprenticeship Manager, Bus Éireann said: “I would like to congratulate both Bus Éireann contestants who participated in this very challenging competition. I am very proud of their great success and its showcases a real testament to all their hard work and training.
Bus Éireann apprentice Patrick Doherty from Stranorlar Garage was awarded the Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Runner up prize.
