Over 1,500 children along with their families and supporters from all over Ireland will travel to the UL Arena in University of Limerick this Saturday to take part in the Aldi Community Games finals for swimming and outdoor team sports. The National finals for swimming and outdoor team sports events commence at 9am for team sports and 12 noon for the swimmers. Tickets are now available at www.communitygames.ie.

Both events are a very large feature of the Community Games sporting calendar with fantastic talent on show from across the country. Over 1,500 children will take part on the day in a variety of sports including gaelic football, rounders, skittles, hurling, soccer, camogie, tag rugby, marathon, cycling on grass and swimming. These events always add a splash of colour and friendly rivalry with families and managers coming from every corner of Ireland to support their own county. It’s a day that will stand out in the memory for every child and family involved.

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company is very proud to be the National Travel Partner to Aldi Community Games and will have employees on site on Saturday 24 September to meet and greet participants, family and friends.

Eleanor Farrell, Chief Commercial Officer, Bus Éireann said: “Bus Éireann is at the heart of communities throughout the country. We are proud to be Aldi’s Community Games official travel partner for the third year and to see so many local communities coming together and showing their support for the games is really something special. The events highlight the remarkable talents of over 1,500 children taking part in swimming and team sports from communities across Ireland and we are delighted to be at the event.”

David Hoysted Chief Executive Officer, Aldi Community Games: “We are really looking forward to meeting all the children who are taking part! We wish everyone the best of luck as they represent their County in the swimming and outdoor team national finals and we hope all the families, along with managers and coaches have a great day. We are delighted to be back in the beautiful surrounds of UL and appreciate their support and use of their facilities. We thank our sponsors Aldi and our official transport partners Bus Éireann and Transport for Ireland for all of their help in making these events possible and connecting communities in a physical way once again. This day would not be possible without the support of our fantastic volunteers who make these events happen not just nationally but also at local, county and provincial level all over Ireland, all year round.”

Aldi Community Games was established in 1967 to provide the opportunity for young people to use their leisure time in a healthy and productive way and that mission is as relevant today. The national cross country and mixed distance relays takes place on the 8 October in Navan, Co. Meath. For more information about the events, please check out www.communitygames.ie
