Bus Éireann to Provide Daily Services from Johnstown, Durrow and Abbeyleix to Portlaoise for 6 Weeks

Bus Éireann is to provide daily services between Johnstown, Durrow and Abbeyleix and Portlaoise on a temporary basis from 1 July 2012. This service has been licensed by the National Transport Authority (NTA). 

The commercial shuttle service will operate six times a day, Monday to Sunday, in each direction. The service will operate for six weeks from Sunday, 1 July 2012 until Saturday, 11 August 2012 inclusive.

The shuttle service will operate from Johnstown to Portlaoise via Durrow and Abbeyleix at 08.40, 10.40, 12.40, 14.40, 16.25, 18.40.

The shuttle service will operate from Portlaoise to Johnstown via Abbeyleix and Durrow at 9.20, 11.20, 13.20, 15.20, 17.20, 19.20.

Customers from Johnstown, Durrow and Abbeyleix can use the shuttle service to connect with a range of Bus Éireann services in Portlaoise such as Route X8 Cork –Dublin-Dublin Airport, and Route 12 Limerick-Dublin-Dublin Airport.

Bus Éireann’s Route 8 Cork-Dublin inter-city commercial service, which stopped in Johnstown, Durrow and Abbeyleix, is being replaced by the limited stop Route X8 Cork-Dublin-Dublin-Airport service from 1 July 2012. Route X8 will not stop in Johnstown, Durrow or Abbeyleix.

Bus Éireann has taken on-board comments from customers, local people, public representatives and other interested parties, and has introduced this temporary commercial service to provide customers in Johnstown, Durrow and Abbeyleix with transport between the towns and the ability to connect with our national network of services in Portlaoise. This shuttle service is being introduced on a temporary basis, while the NTA examines potential longer-term solutions for public transport provision in this area,” said a spokesperson for Bus Éireann.
