Bus Éireann officially launched its sleek new town buses in Sligo last week with the help of employees Marie King Mc Govern, Allister Kee and Kevin Kerrigan.

Bus Éireann officially launched its sleek new town buses in Sligo last week with the help of employees Marie King Mc Govern, Allister Kee and Kevin Kerrigan.

This year Bus Éireann will take delivery of 100 vehicles Nationwide - 5 of these new state-of-the-art buses will be allocated to Sligo town to operate the S1 and S2 services representing an investment of €1.2m.

  • All vehicles are fully accessible, feature Transport For Ireland livery
  • All have the latest Euro VI emissions certification
  • On-board monitor screens display passenger information, including estimated time of arrival at next stop
  • Bright new interior design with comfortable seating that includes priority seats, a dedicated wheelchair space and a separate designated child buggy space
  • USB sockets, complimentary Wi-Fi and cameras throughout with CCTV security

This investment follows a successful 2018 where customer journeys and customers satisfaction increased by over 6%. In Sligo alone, customer journeys increased by 7.6% in 2018 while usage of Leap cards grew from 6% to 14% of all trips.

The roll-out of Leap cards went live on Sligo town services in 2018 allowing customers to choose adult, student or child Leap fares for better value including savings of up to 30%, by using your Leap Card making it more convenient traveling and no need for cash on-board. Leap cards fares are now available on all PSO routes in the Sligo area with more information available on www.buseireann.ie and www.leapcard.ie

Speaking on the new fleet investment Brian Connolly, Bus Éireann, Regional Operations, Manager (West) said: “This investment represents a major enhancement for our customers and focuses on ongoing improvements of services in the Sligo area.”

Anne Graham Chief Executive Officer of the National Transport Authority said: “We see these enhancements to bus services for Sligo as a significant development as part of the Transport for Ireland integrated public transport network. The €1.2m we are investing in buses is positive news for Sligo, and Bus Éireann customers will certainly benefit from an improved journey experience in newer, cleaner vehicles.”
