European Car Free Day in Limerick City on Saturday, 22 September 2018

To celebrate European Car Free Day on Saturday, 22 September, O’Connell Street, Limerick will be a pedestrian and bus only zone from 11.00 until 14.00 from its junction with Sarsfield Street to Roches Street.

There will be loads of fun and games for children as well as for adults, while the benefits of walking, cycling and using public transport will be highlighted.

The aim of the day is to highlight the need to reduce our dependency on cars for people coming into the city centre, by walking, cycling or taking public transport.

Bus Éireann will present the new double decker buses for Limerick, will be providing Free LEAP Cards and a Free City Tour. This guided tour of Limerick city will depart from outside the Augustian’s Church on O’Connell Street every thirty minutes from 11.00 until 14.30 hrs, passing many of the historical sights of Limerick City. After leaving O’Connell Street the bus will travel over the Shannon Bridge and along the banks of the Shannon, passing the Treaty Stone and St. Johns Castle before heading back to O’Connell Street.
