Bus Éireann to provide shuttle buses and live entertainment at the National Ploughing Championships

Company celebrating 30th birthday and 50 years of School Transport provision 

Heading to the Ploughing Championship? Take the stress and hassle out of traffic and parking, and get direct to the site on public transport. Bus Éireann will be providing shuttle buses to the Screggan site from Tullamore Train Station. With dedicated bus lanes en route, a swift journey time is guaranteed.

The shuttle service is connected with train arrival and departure times and will operate from Tullamore Train Station to the National Ploughing Championships - from September 19-21 next - from 07.00 until 11.30 daily, with return journeys running from 13.45 to 18.30.

Tickets are available to buy online at buseireann.ie or irishrail.ie and will cost €5 return for a child or student, and €8 return for an adult.  A family return ticket [two adults and up to three children] will cost €20. For those who need to travel by car, Bus Éireann will also be operating a Park and Ride facility from the official car parks, direct to the exhibition site.  

Bus Éireann marks 30 years with Fred Cooke, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí & Liam MacCarthy Cup 

Bus Éireann is celebrating its 30 birthday this year and to celebrate, it has a great schedule of entertainment planned for its exhibition space at the Ploughing Championships. Visitors to the event are invited to join them for comedy performances by comedian Fred Cooke, traditional music and dance performances by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Leeside rappers GMC Beats, and VIP guest ‘Liam MacCarthy’ will be in situ for a few hours on Wednesday.

One lucky visitor to the marquee will be in with a chance to win up to €2,500 worth of free travel, and other spot prizes will include Open Road tickets and Expressway tickets. A Samsung Galaxy is also up for grabs for the best social media picture from the Bus Éireann stand. To enter, visitors just have to ‘check themselves in’ with a picture on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram using the #Ploughing2017 hashtag and tagging @buseireann.

Winner of Customer Focus Achievement Award in 2017, Bus Éireann is the largest provider of regional city, town and rural public transport services, with 650 vehicles in operation on 275 routes throughout the country. The company also operates the School Transport Scheme, which carries 116,000 school children daily during term time, equalling 40 million passenger journeys a year on over 6000 routes! Visitors to the Bus Éireann site at the Ploughing can take a tour of its new ‘Fleet of the Future’ - with an Expressway coach, Bus Éireann double deck and School Bus all on site and open to explore and enjoy. 

Staff will be on hand to showcase the web booking systems, the great benefits offered by Leap Card, and the enhancements on city, town and commuter services developed in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (NTA). Leap Cards will be distributed too.
