Bus Éireann Revises Limerick City Network to Deliver Enhanced Service

Following a review of public transport services in Limerick undertaken by the National Transport Authority (NTA), Bus Éireann is pleased to announce a revised Limerick City bus network to provide customers with an improved level of service including more frequent services on some routes, increased reliability, clearer timetables, and a simplified network.

The changes, which have been approved by the NTA, will come into effect from Sunday, 16 September 2012.

The key features of the revised network are:

  • A simplified network, which is easier to understand and makes it easier to plan your journey throughout the city
  • Improved access to Mid-Western Regional Hospital
  • Better access to employment areas, industrial estates and residential areas
  • More frequent services
  • More customer-friendly Information Displays
  • Routes standardised
  • Improved connections to and from the Rail/Bus Station
  • New Route numbers

The routings and areas served by all routes have changed to ensure a simplified, customer-focused network of services in Limerick city.

The revised routes are as follows:

 

Route 301 (Westbury – City Centre – Bus/Rail Station – Mid-Western Regional Hospital

This revised timetable will connect Westbury/Shannon Banks to the city centre via Main Corbally Road. The route will now be extended to operate via the bus/rail station and Hyde Road to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. This service will also serve the Fr Russell Road area, which was previously served by Route 312 City Centre to Ballycummin.

Route 301 now has:

  • Direct services to and from the bus/rail station
  • Direct services to Mid-Western Regional Hospital/Crescent Shopping centre
  • A 30 minute frequency
  • Improved frequency at weekends
  • Services to/from Raheen Industrial Estate at peak times

 

Route 302 (City Centre –Limerick Institute of Technology - Caherdavin)  

This revised timetable will continue to operate on its current routing providing a direct service to Thomond Park Stadium and Limerick Institute of Technology. The route will also offer improved frequency on Sundays.


Route 303 (Pineview –City Centre- O’Malley Park)

This revised timetable will connect Pineview/Craeval Park to the city centre. This route is also extended to serve Carew Park, O’Malley Park and the Janesboro area.

This revised route amalgamates route 303 City Centre-Carew Park, Route 306 Craeval-City Centre-O’Malley Park and Route 309 City Centre-Pineview.

Route 303 now has:

  • Improved cross-city connections
  • A 30 minute weekday frequency


Route 304 (University of Limerick – City Centre – Raheen – Ballycummin)

This revised timetable will continue to link the Raheen area to the city centre. It will now also be extended to operate via the bus/rail station to Castletroy and the University of Limerick, which was previously served by route 308 City Centre-University.

All services now operate via Ballycummin area previously served by route 312.

Route 304 now has:

  • Improved cross-city connections
  • Improved access to rail/bus station
  • Standardised routings
  • A 15 minute weekday frequency
  • Increase weekend frequency
  • Services to/from Raheen Industrial Park & National Technology Park at peak times


Route 305 (St Mary’s Park – City Centre – Lynwood)

This revised timetable will continue to operate on its current route connecting the St Mary’s Park and Lynwood areas to the city centre. St. Mary’s Park was previously served by Route 309 St. Mary’s Park-City centre.

Route 305 now has:

  • Standardised routing
  • 60 minute weekday frequency


Route 306 (City Centre-Ballynanty)

This revised timetable will continue to connect the Ballynanty area to the city centre and will also be extended to operate via the Dublin Road and Parkway Retail Park to serve the Brookfield residential area close to University of Limerick.

Route 306 now has:

  • Direct services from Brookfield to city centre
  • Standardised routing
  • 60 minute weekday frequency
  • Walking distance to University of Limerick


The following routes will no longer operate:
304A - Replaced by the revised Route 301 service
305 (Coonagh) - Replaced by extra stops on Route 343 Shannonlink.
312 - Replaced by the revised Route 301 and 304 services.


In tandem with these improvements, Bus Éireann has also introduced seven new vehicles to its Limerick city fleet to replace older vehicles. All seven vehicles, which have been funded by the NTA, feature free Wi-Fi, low floor access and comfort seating.

These changes being introduced will make Limerick’s city bus service easier to use and easier to understand.
